Boeing 2013 – 2016

Requirements Manager/UI Designer

In 2013 I took on the responsibility of the TAC requirements manager.

In this role, I use my experience as a user advocate and designer to provide personal and visual dimensions to a process that benefits from additional clarity.

Along with writing proposals and estimates, I would produce preliminary UI designs to ensure that the client’s expectations were clear and software development got started in the appropriate direction.

UI Design Mockups

Insider Threat

This mockup UI was created using Angular JS, Bootstrap, and jQuery. The goal was to create a dashboard view listing indicators of potential problematic behaviors. The goal was to provide the user with a prioritized list of people within their domain who wer exhibiting indications of troubling behaviors in a prioritized list. While the initial driver was to discover corporate insider threats, it was also being considered for use by a military branch to identify and prevent potential suicides.

This is Bootstrap/jQuery mockup of a proposed interface for a lightweight persistent search capability combined with a faceted discovery capability. The mockups display an adherence to the client’s overwhelming desire to have the simplest path to the information that was most pertinent to their analysts. Therefore, there are minimal options to choose before simply typing in the text that most naturally would lead to the discovery of the desired information.

Visual Information Initiative

One of Boeing’s business units was tasked with moving some satellite image retrieval software into the cloud. They were given a budget to redesign their interface and asked me to spend some time at the client site coming up with revisions to their existing UI that took advantage of elasticsearch and it’s faceted search capability. I spent roughly a month in Virginia getting to know the needs of the users and working with the development team. While down there, I introduced Agile methodologies to their team dynamic and produced a functional UI mockup that the developers were able to implement quickly and easily, ultimately earning accolades for being the first functioning application in the cloud.
